my “man” page

I am currently a student at Rochester Institute of Technology, I am studying Networking and Systems Administration.

I have been working in Technology since 2002 and have experience in the following areas: Network Design and Implementation, Windows and Unix Systems Administration, Webmastering, Database development and maintenance and Software development.

I started out as an intern with my high school technology department and within a year became an assistant systems administrator, I was in charge of making sure the servers (we had quite a few) were backing up properly, were updated and for coming up with ways to better secure them. I also helped with desktop support for the staff and faculty, it was all a very rewarding experience for me because it was my first big experience in how a larger size network has to operate, be maintained and secured while keeping the end user experience as hassle free as possible.

After I graduated high school I moved on to RIT and started pursuing my degree in Computer Science, after a year of, rather mundane programming I had decided that while I greatly respected the art of computer coding, it was not the job for me, while I had the debugging and methodology down, I just didn’t like sitting and doing that all day.

I opted for something more hands on, so Networking and Systems Administration it was! I had done Systems Administration for a few years, but Networking was, for the most part an unknown to me. Since then networking has become a very integral part of my work focus and I find it fascinating.

I also recently finished with an amazing co-op with Cisco Systems I have gained even greater knowledge in the areas of networking and have also gained an interest in IP Telephony which I hope to work with more on a second co-op with Cisco. I also earned my Cisco Certified Network Associate certification during my time there.

So all this technical talk, what else do I do!?  Well I am a hobby photographer, I don’t get out on shoots nearly as much as I should, but I am working on it!
I love to sail, I was raised by the ocean and there is no place I would rather be.  I also enjoy reading, though these days I don’t do nearly enough of that and other than that just relaxing with friends.
I also love cars, granted I can’t fix them, but I hope to change that someday!

That is about all I can think of…Thanks for reading!
